"Ballet Boy"

A young boy reads the painting description beside Edgar Degas' Dancers in Green and Yellow at the Soloman R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.

On a summer evening during a visit to New York, I was sitting in the Guggenheim when I noticed a scholarly looking gentleman and what appeared to be his son enter the room and begin looking at the artwork.  They exchanged a few words about a couple of paintings, but the son seemed drawn to different works than his father and they quickly moved away from each other within the room.  Watching the boy, I was surprised by how long he scrutinized each painting and that he took the time to read the descriptions.  He then went back and forth between the works by Degas and it struck me that he was comparing dates to which paintings and drawings were created earlier and which were later.  Degas' Dancers in Green and Yellow appeared to be his favourite.
