Across the Street

A gentleman at the Art Gallery of Ontario closely examines the 1918 painting Winter Afternoon, City Street, Toronto by Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris.  Harris painted this scene while recovering from a breakdown caused, in part, by the loss of his brother in WWI as well as the mysterious death of fellow artist and friend Tom Thomson around the same time.  Around this time Harris was painting many Toronto scenes and developing a more abstracted style.
